Johanna Isaksson received her master's degree in civil engineering and mathematics at Luleå University of Technology in the Swedish Subarctic. She has also studied at the Universität Rostock in Germany and worked in the power plants of Helsingin Energia in Finland. Both endeavors provided Johanna the opportunity to refine her mastery of the local tongues. Perhaps the most unusual language in Johanna's repertoire is the quickly disappearing Meän kieli, or Tornedalsfinska--the dialect of Finnish and Swedish spoken in the Torne River Valley. Before coming to Viking, she worked for several years as a freelance editor and proofreader of Swedish academic texts. Technical and scientific translations are her specialty.
Robert Stamper received his master's degree in German Literature from the University of Georgia. Upon moving to Europe, however, he found the Swedish language an even more beguiling seductress. Apart from translating and editing in the US and Sweden, in recent years he has also studied and taught in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. He has edited English-language texts (including novels, literary criticism, scientific papers, etc.) on both a freelance and professional basis for the past nine years. He's currently working as an assistant professor of English at Luleå. Robert's responsibilities at Viking pertain primarily to humanities translations and English editing.
